Love Song to Vin Diesel

Love Song to Vin Diesel

In honor of the birth of a daughter to Vin Diesel and some model, who's young enough to be his daughter herself, a prose love song:

Why do I love Vin Diesel?

Let me count it off.
  1. Mixed Race: Unlike Keanu Reeves, who defaults to white, and Lou Diamond Philips, who defaults to Latino, Diesel is open about his multiraciality and has sought and accepted roles as Cubans, Jews, Italians, and other stuff. He's reportedly Dominican and Italian, raised by an African American stepfather, but he doesn't break his parts down for the press. He does, however, call his production company One Race.
  2. Initiative: His self-created legend says that he found himself at the end of his twenties with no real acting career, owing to his difficulty being cast as a racially ambiguous-looking dude. So he wrote, directed and starred in a short, which went to Sundance and got him his breakthrough role in Saving Private Ryan. The piece was called Multi Facial and was about a multiracial actor who had difficulty being cast as a racially ambiguous-looking dude. You can see it here.
  3. Geek: He continues to play Dungeons and Dragons into his forties, has a tattoo of his D&D character's name, and started a gaming company.
  4. Good actor: Yeah, I'm not talking about XXX or The Fast and the Furious. Despite taking a lot of crap roles, and making big bucks on them, he's proven his acting chops in Multi Facial, Saving Private Ryan, Boiler Room, and Find Me Guilty.
  5. Demanding: Within a few roles of breakthing through, he was demanding $20 million per picture, walking away from a couple of moneymakers because he felt like he was being dissed. Depending on how you look at it, that's either obnoxious, or cool. I tend towards the latter.
  6. Charity: It might be a tax shelter, but The One Race Global Film Foundation is hella thoughtful and cool, training "underserved" folks all around the world in film tech skills to "encourage the growth of diverse international voices, ... while building a skilled labor force, which will promote film production in new locations."
  7. Privacy: If he doesn't have the good taste to date interesting and age-appropriate women, at least he has the class to keep his mouth shut about it ... although now that I think about it, he might be keeping it quiet so as to avoid any jokes about May/October romances.
  8. Plus, he's just hot, dontcha think?

So who would you write a love song to, and why?
