McCain/Obama Pop Tastes
McCain/Obama Pop Tastes

Here's an article about how Entertainment Weekly interviewed McCain and Obama about their tastes in pop culture.
Apparently, Obama likes Spiderman and McCain likes Batman. That makes sense, doesn't it?
The big surprise in all of this is how boring this article is. None of the revelations are particularly surprising, although McCain isn't as uncool as you'd imagine, and Obama nowhere near any dangerous cutting edges.
But the interviews had to be done. Aside from all of the weird racial identity shit going on (and not going on) in this campaign, this has been a campaign about media savvy, and by that I DON'T mean how much the camera loves you.
Obama is ahead because--and this is partly generational--he speaks the language of his media-soaked generation. He knows how to throw in gestures learned from MTV and YouTube, speak phrases heard from hip-hop radio, and allude to the tip of a fragile chain of pop meaning that will allow his hearers to follow his allusion to its source all on their own.
It's a shut-out: McCain is simply too old
